Babycakes Consumer ReviewJanuary 22, 2010 After watching Larry Himmel's story on News 8 about Babycakes in Hillcrest, Amy and I decided to go check it out. As a busy San Diego Realtor, Amy is always out and about around San Diego County. However, I spend most of my time sitting at my computer working on MyShoppingTown.com, our FREE Fundraising Website, so I don't usually have any reason to venture out of east county. When I saw the Channel 8 story though, I knew I had to make a special trip. First we went to the Hillcrest Farmers Market since we were in the area anyway. I didn't realize that there was so much food at the Farmers Market, but we held out in anticipation of the treat to come. I'm definitely glad we did, as it was everything we were expecting. We arrived after 2pm on a Sunday afternoon, and it was busy, but not too crowded. I was a little disappointed at first because there wasn't very many cupcakes in the display case. Luckily within a few moments of arriving, a fresh batch of gourmet cupcakes in many flavors were just finished, so we had a great selection to choose from. I decided on their signature “Babies” (Marble Cake w/ Chocolate Chips & Cream Cheese) and a strawberry smoothie. Amy got the Pommy Cupcake (Pomegranate) and a mixed strawberry/mango smoothie. As usual it was a beautiful day in San Diego, so we sat outside at a table on their front patio. Being married has it's advantages, as we usually share each others meals, so we get to sample twice as much each time we go out. We've had good cupcakes at the Lemon Grove Bakery, Howard's Bakery in El Cajon, and good cupcakes from Albertsons, Vons and the Costco bakery. We are both in agreement that the Babycakes Gourmet Cupcakes are definitely the best we've ever had in San Diego. So between the great cupcakes and friendly customer service, we will definitely make more trips to Hillcrest to enjoy their variety of delicious gourmet cupcakes and other good food they have there. In addition to Gourmet Cupcakes, they also have Gourmet Coffee and Smoothies, Stuffed Croissant, Quiche, Chicken Pie, a Fresh Fruit Bowl and a great selection of other bakery treats. We didn't try any of those yet, but we're sure to on our next visit.
