Union Tribune Interviews Stephen Halfaker - LUSD

October 1, 2009
Recently the Union-Tribune newspaper sat down with Stephen B. Halfaker, Superintendent of the Lakeside Union School District to talk about the district's $79.55 million school bond measure (Proposition V), which was approved by voters last fall. They also talked about how the district handled the airing of President Barack Obama's education speech a few weeks ago and declining enrollment, among other topics.

The following questions were asked in the interview:

  1. So first of all, tell me some of the basics of the district. How many students? How many schools? How does the size compare with other districts in East County?
  2. How are the district and community coping with the passing of School Board member Harold Hilliker? I understand the board has appointed a replacement. Are things going smoothly since then?
  3. On Proposition V, how is that going? Are you pleased with where things are? You're not relying on state revenues?
